- Synopsis
- This work is designed to serve as a textbook for an introductory women's studies course at the undergraduate level. In putting together the text, the authors (former co-chairs of the women's studies department at Hamilton College) aimed to give a sense of the broad range of women's experience in terms of class, race, culture, nation, disability, age, and sexual orientation within the wider framework of security and sustainability; provide an understanding of theory; and maintain a connection to the field's roots in the women's liberation movement. Chapters discuss bodies and body image; sexuality; health; violence against women; relationships, families, and households; work, wages, and welfare; women and the global economy; crime and criminalization; the military, war, and peace; the environment; and theory, vision, and action.
