This book is excellent in every way for anyone interested in Literature and what it was in the early 1900s. It is also a sensitive representation of life among the English and non English in a rural midwestern community and how they met the challenges of their time including World War I. I say this as an eighty-four-year-old descendent of Germans who settled and farmed in Texas among the kind of community the author of this book became acquainted with in Nebraska. I can imagine the story being boring except to those who are interested in it as a literary or historical period piece. It will also be interesting to those who are sufficiently interested in Willa Cather to want to read at least one of her stories.

I didn't like the book at all. Some parts were okay but most was boring.
