This excellent, fast-moving book takes the reader through the authentic streets and markets of ancient Rome and beyond. The characters range in age and role so that the book is suitable for all members of a family as a wonderful read, set during the 3rd Punic war featuring Cato the Elder and his personal eye (detective in a toga), Petronius, featuring the daughter of Cleopatra and Mark Antony and her sister, the daughter of emperor Augustus, who trade places. Time travel ranges between 150 BCE and the years after Cleopatra's death when her daughter is married to Juba, the King of Mauretania in Africa. The characters must perform good deeds at the moment when they are ordered to make war with Carthage and quell the slave riots. Fascinating shape-shifting characters through time and human to cat transformation of these immortal Romans.
