- Synopsis
- Diantha was only eight years old when her beautiful mother died and her natural father, Lord Devonwych, sent her away to school. Now she is a lovely young woman, barred from Society by the double scandal of her mother's death and her own birth. She is making her living as a music teacher when her father summons her to his death bed. Diantha is stunned to learn the terms of his will--she will inherit a fortune if she marries her father's protege, the handsome, enigmatic Marquis of Ravistock. As Lady Ravistock, Diantha would be ensured of acceptance into Society, but, mindful of how her parents defied convention for the sake of love, she has sworn to marry only for love. Diantha knows that she loves the marquis, but his interest in her seems no more than remote friendship. Then he is threatened by another scandal. When it seems that only marriage can save him, Diantha agrees to wed him, knowing that she will never know if his professed love is true or pretended.
