- Synopsis
- Thirty-three-year-old publishing neophyte Alice Hammond is adrift. Her boyfriend has left her -- pregnant and with no apartment in New York City. It's pretty clear what Alice must do, but when she gets to the abortion clinic she has a change of heart and decides to go it alone. When she finally reveals her condition to her family, what little support she gets is from her new beau and from her demanding curmudgeonly grandmother -- a former Hollywood starlet who is now her housemate. With irreverent wit, deft prose, and characters whose behavior surprises even themselves, Sara Lewis delivers an astute, contemporary first novel about life and love in the Big City.
