- Synopsis
- Dante Alighieri died in Ravenna in 1321, shortly after the completion of the Paradiso, the third and final canticle of The Divine Comedy. Born in Florence in 1265, where he spent the first thirty-six years of his life, Dante passed his remaining twenty years in exile, banished for ever from his city on the grounds of fraudulent use of public money, a charge trumped up by his political enemies. An intensely active man, of strong convictions and outstanding intellectual powers, his life was marked by commitment to causes, to civic life, to study, to literature.
