- Synopsis
- Sisters Lizzie and Laura meet the goblin fruit sellers in the evening. Laura eats the fruit and begins to waste away from longing. Lizzie finds a way to trick the goblins and save her sister. Goblin Market was originally published in 1862 and has been republished several times since. At this time, very few stories had heroic females, but this poem provides a female who takes action - she deals with the sly goblins to save her sister, she does not wait passively for someone else to provide the rescue.
