Red October is perhaps the most realistic fictitious book I have ever read. Most of the story takes place aboard a nuclear submarine, Red October, whose captain decides to defect against the Sovient Union. The detail in this book is excellent - from the description of propulsion systems to the actions of each character. Clancy takes a lot of time and pride to develop each character's personality, and while most characters do have a static personality, quite a few do end up being dynamic. If you are looking for a bit of technical background on nuclear submarines, I recommend this book without hesitation.
