- Synopsis
- Darkangel is a 280 page conventional fantasy novel first published in 1982 and written by the widely recognized fantasy author Meredith Ann Pierce. This is Book One of the Darkangel Trilogy; A Gathering of Gargoyles is the second and The Pearl of the Soul of the World is the third. The summary by Magic Carpets Books reads as follows: Meredith Anne Pierce's poetic and haunting fantasy is set on a magical moon that was long before terra-formed and then deserted by earth people. Adapted humans and strange magical beasts and powers inhabit its mysterious kingdoms and its varied terrains. A Vampire Lord captures the servant girl Aeriel and takes her to his mountain castle where she must spin clothes out of her emotions for his demented wives. As she befriends the strange beings of the castle, she realizes that she must choose between killing her master for his evil deeds or saving him for the sake of his beauty and the spark of good that she thinks may be hidden within him. To resolve the conflict, she escapes and goes on a quest where she is helped by mythical creatures and discovers mysteries of her world and her Vampire Lord.
