Gates were built by an ancient race that allowed the movement through time as well as through space. The gates and how they were used corrupted the race that built them. Now one woman and her liegeman seem to be the only folks interested in seeing the gates closed for good. Lyrical prose and a story that is medieval and pure sf at the same time.
