Wow! What an eye-opener. Despite having been to the Alaskan Arctic I never really thought of the United States as an Arctic nation but we sure are! And we are way behind the rest of the world at claiming new land masses emerging with global warming, securing navigational routes and having a rational plan for oil exploration. This nonfiction work is for non-scientists. It gives a fairly balanced presentation of the issue of off shore exploratory drilling from the Shell oil rep and the native mayor of Barrow, AK. I especially enjoyed the details of Eskimo culture and how their current lifestyle depends on oil money. Change is inevitable. Highly recommended.
