- Synopsis
- Birch (human development and nutritional sciences, Pennsylvania State U. ) et al. present a report from the Institute of Medicine's Committee on Obesity Prevention Policies for Young Children that draws from reports from organizations, presentations, and other materials to review factors related to the prevention of overweight and obese children from birth to age five, with a focus on nutrition, physical activity, food and beverage marketing, reduction of TV screen time, healthy eating environments, access to affordable healthy foods, sleep, and sedentary behavior. They then suggest to policy makers and caregivers who interact with parents and young children policies that can change their environments to promote healthy weight and potential actions to implement them.
