The Lost OASIS: The Desert War and the Hunt for Zerzura
- Synopsis
-
Kelly (history, King's College, London) tells the story behind the The English Patient, the novel made into a film, which gives a fictional account of the Zerzura Club, a group of desert explorers and adventurers. When World War II erupted in 1939, one member founded the British Long Range Desert Group to spy on and disrupt Rommel's advance on Cairo, while another club member, a Hungarian, succeeded in placing German spies there. Kelly's narrative draws on interviews with survivors and previously unknown documents from England, Italy, Germany, Hungary and Egypt. This paperback edition is a reprint of the 2002 work.
