- Synopsis
- Hugo Pott, a wildly successful London playwright, faces his demons during a weekend at an English country estate. The weekend brings together an assortment of characters whose lives are interwoven in unexpected ways. They include the ill-suited Philomena and Gibbie; Ford Usher, a scientist on the verge of a breakthrough; the temperamental actress, Aggie Melotte; lovelorn Marianne; and Corny, a man with a nose for gossip. This is a novel of gracious living between the two world wars, with shades of change on the horizon.
