- Synopsis
- It's a damp Saturday morning in Glasgow when Strathclyde CID are called to the Necropolis, the city's vast Victorian cemetery, to photograph the body of a young woman. Her clothes in disarray, she has been laid out ritually over one of the old slab tombs, where she was found by an early morning dog walker. The following day, another girl is found, this time at the foot of a statue in the Southern Necropolis. Retired detective Danny Neilson is convinced that the two murders are linked to the infamous unsolved Red Silk cases that he worked on in the 1960s. Danny is haunted by the memory of the investigation into the four young women who were murdered after nights spent in the city's dance halls. In his retirement he works as a taxi rank supervisor, keeping a watchful eye on the young women who stagger out of nightclubs in the early hours in a bid to assuage his guilt. With his nephew, police photographer Tony Winter, he visits Archibald Atto, the convicted serial killer suspected by many of being Red Silk. Atto has boasted of killing many more women than those he was charged with but has always refused to say anything about that particular case. Atto continues to play games and keep his secrets, much to Winter and Neilson's frustration - then his DNA is discovered on the victims. But how, when he's been behind bars for the past 20 years?
