Individual Memberships

June 6, 2014

Bookshare expects members (or parents/guardians for students less than 18 years of age) to self-certify student enrollment status, but reserves the right to request proof.

For example, if a student gets an individual membership citing enrollment in a school that has submitted a student roster that omits that student, Bookshare has the option to request additional information.

Qualifying disabilities are disabilities with a physical basis that severely inhibit or prevent an individual from reading standard print. This may be a visual impairment or blindness, a severe learning disability that affects reading, or a physical ability that affects one's ability to hold a book or turn pages.

All Bookshare members must submit Proof of Disability to verify they qualify or Bookshare. There are several ways to submit Proof of Disability depending upon the type of membership.

For educators creating a new organizational membership, you will be guided to the appropriate process and forms during the sign up process.

To qualify for a Bookshare membership you must have a qualified print disability; however, freely distributable titles (e.g. public domain or Creative Commons licensed) are available for download without membership.

The default number of downloads per 30 days is 100 books.

The book download limit is based on a 30 day cycle that starts on the day you download your first book. If for example, your download is 100, and 100 books were downloaded on day 1, additional books wouldn’t be available until day 31.
