Karen joined the ABT team in February, 2013. Karen has over 30 years of experience as a Special Educator in a variety of roles including teacher, Educational Diagnostician, and Assistive Technology Specialist for a large urban school district. Her years as a member of an Assistive Technology Team afford her an extensive knowledge base of assistive technology hardware, software, and training. Karen’s experience in seeking solutions to the roadblocks that make learning difficult for students has prepared her for working with educators, parents, and students who are seeking solutions for print-disabled learners. She also worked as a consultant to an ESC where she taught a Methods and Strategies class in the Alternative Teacher Certification Program for future Special Educators. Karen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education/Reading/Special Education from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Science degree in Special Education/Educational Diagnostics from Lamar State University.

Matt joined the ABT team in August 2015. He brings with him 18 years’ experience as a Classroom Teacher, Campus Dyslexia Specialist, District Instructional Technology Facilitator, and Curriculum and Technology Integration Specialist, having worked with school districts throughout Central Texas. A trained MTA educator, Matt served as a campus 504 coordinator and instructional coach, responsible for the intake, assessment, and instruction of Dyslexic students.
Matt has extensive Instructional Technology experience, in both special and regular education settings. In particular, he has expertise in the use of mobile devices in the classroom. Well versed in program administration and training, Matt is passionate about using technology as a tool to facilitate and enhance learning, particularly literacy.
Matt has presented at many different conferences and professional development workshops, including TCEA, Tots and Technology, and TXDLA. Matt earned a Bachelor of Science in Reading/ Elementary Education from TX. State University, and a Masters in Education in Curriculum and Instruction / Instructional Technology from Houston Baptist University. Matt is also an Apple and Google certified teacher.

Jeanie joined the ABT team in September 2015 with 27 years of experience as an educator and administrator focused on Special Education. Most recently, Jeanie served as the Program Coordinator for Special Education and Section 504 at the Region 5 Education Service Center (ESC) for nine years. In this capacity, she was responsible for a variety of special education programs, including access to the general curriculum, assessment, and diverse learners. In addition, she was Region 5’s representative in the Texas Assistive Technology Network (TATN). Prior to joining the Region 5 ESC staff, she was a Special Education Supervisor at Liberty County Co-op. To both of these roles, she brought thirteen years of first-hand experience as a Special Education/Inclusion teacher in Port Neches Groves ISD. Jeanie received her Master’s in Education, with a focus on Educational Leadership, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, both from Lamar University.

Katie joined the ABT team as an administrative assistant in the summer of 2014 and provides support to the three ABT Outreach Coordinators. Previously, she taught fifth grade for eight years after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Austin.
