This book starts with Tarzan being away. A German patrol reaches the Greystoke farmstead and destroys it completely. Jane is kidnapped but we do not learn this until the end of the book. Tarzan believing Jane to be dead avenges himself on the Germans. He also encounters a German agent Bertha Kircher and a British pilot Lieutenant Smith-Oldwick. They are captured by cannibals but flee only to fall into the hands of the maniacs. They are taken to a city where they meet the mad king and another English lady who used to be the former queen. They all escape thanks to intervention by the British forces. It is then that Tarzan learns that Jane is not dead and the true identity of Bertha Kircher. The book is riveting and is a prequel to Tarzan the terrible. The plot has a lot of twists and good character development. Written by Pranav Lal.
