As well as being a doctor, Emma Watson is an astronaut. She is sent to the international space station to replace an astronaut whose wife has been killed in a car accident . Soon after her arrival, experimental mice begin to die and then her partners aboard ISS begin to sicken and die. This is a wonderful book, though I wouldn't say it was science fiction at all, even though it takes place in space. It is one of Gerritsen's more rivetting books.
