- Synopsis
- Robert Garner McBrearty is ranked among the finest short-story writers in the United States today. His work explores the weird, unexpected, and sometimes transcendent moments in ordinary lives. In the title story, the narrator tries to take his older brother to the hospital during a manic episode, while his brother implores him to listen to the Comanches who once lived and died on their land. In "The Real World" a young man becomes a plumber's assistant for a day, with calamitous results. In the satirical story "The Half Penny Man" a hardworking young writer demands a pay raise.
