The Effective Executive

by Peter Drucker

Management books usually deal with managing other people. The subject of this book is managing oneself for effectiveness. That one can truly manage other people is by no means adequately proven. But one can always manage oneself. Indeed, executives who do not manage themselves for effectiveness cannot possibly expect to manage their associates and subordinates. Management is largely by example. Executives who do not know how to make themselves effective in their own job and work set the wrong example. To be reasonably effective it is not enough for the individual to be intelligent, to work hard or to be knowledgeable. Effectiveness is something separate, something different. But to be effective also does not require special gifts, special aptitude, or special training. Effectiveness as an executive demands doing certain-and fairly simple-things. It consists of a small number of practices, the practices that are presented and discussed in this book.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship

by Peter Drucker

Innovation and entrepreneurship are discussed under three main headings: The Practice of Innovation; The Practice of Entrepreneurship; and Entrepreneurial Strategies. Each of these is an "aspect" of innovation and entrepreneurship rather than a stage. This is a practical book, but it is not a "how-to" book. Instead, it deals with the what, when, and why; with such tangibles as policies and decisions; opportunities and risks; structures and strategies; staffing, compensation, and rewards.

El management del futuro

by Peter Drucker

Management: Tasks, Responsibilities, Practices

by Peter Drucker

This book tries to equip the manager with the understanding, the thinking, the knowledge, and the skills for today's and also tomorrow's job. In this book, there is equal stress on the manager's tasks and on his character. This book and its approach have been developed and tested in more than thirty years of teaching management to many different kinds of students in colleges, universities, and executive programmes and seminars. But the subject matter of the book itself has largely been developed out of nearly forty years of working closely with managers on all levels as a consultant, with managers in large and small businesses, and with managers in government agencies, in hospitals and in schools. Most of this experience has been in America, and with American businesses and public service institutions-although I have worked also with managements of businesses and nonbusinesses alike outside the United States, especially in Great Britain, Western Europe, Japan, and Latin America. The book therefore tries to include what every manager needs to know-but in a form in which it is also accessible to people who themselves have not yet worked as managers or even as employees in managed institutions. The user of this book can therefore be sure of two things: everything in the book has been developed in management practice and found both effective in it and central to it; and everything has been tested by students of management and found to be meaningful to them, as well as easily accessible.

Managing for Results

by Peter Drucker

This is a "what to do" book. It deals with the economic tasks that any business has to discharge for economic performance and economic results. It attempts to organize these tasks so that executives can perform them systematically, purposefully, with understanding, and with reasonable probability of accomplishment. It tries to develop a point of view, concepts and approaches for finding what should be done and how to go about doing it. This book draws on practical experience as a consultant to businesses of all kinds and sizes for a good many years. Everything in it has been tested and is being used today effectively in real businesses. There are illustrations of, and references to, concrete situations on almost every page-
