- Synopsis
-
Much more will be written about Vietnam; there will be more essays, editorials, and photographs that focus on the injured soldier or the face of a bewildered child. Yet will there be one picture that reflects the country not in the usual war-stained perspective, but through the eyes of the Vietnamese themselves as they remember her, before it all began?
Two Vietnamese authors have put together a collection of pictures. Within these pages, a village amid boundless green rice carpets, thatched and tile roof houses, and clumps of bamboo; a river, tiny sampans, silhouettes of young girls balancing oars; or the sea, brown-skinned fishermen, wrinkled hands and fishing nets - these are the images of Vietnam, Our Beloved Land that people keep in their hearts.
Some of the photographs have been entered in international expositions where they have been recognized not only for fine composition and balance, but also for their ability to capture glimpses of Vietnam that few Westerners have had the chance to see, or understand.
What do such pictures convey? Perhaps some of the sacrifice, endurance and patience of its people, or the love of a man for his country. Indeed, the native Vietnamese photographer has an important role: his pictues wi;; serve as a source of inspiration for his countrymen. And These are the pictures of Vietnam to be remembered.
