- Synopsis
- In addition to nine stories based in Mexico and focusing mainly on the lives of the indigenous "Indian" population, this book contains an introduction by Traven's wife, Rose Elena Lujan, that identifies (to a point) who B. Traven actually was. Also included is a political polemic, "In the Freest State in the World", concerning the socialist revolution in Bavaria and the conservative counter-revolution after World War I. The author identifies himself with an earlier pseudinym Traven used -- Ret Marut. In the introduction to Marut's polemic, the editors review the political history of that era, and how Ret Marut fit into it.
