- Synopsis
- Lovesick Budge Moss, middle-aged author on the skids, sails his boat one-way to Rock Hall on Chesapeake Bay with only his cat for company--and then he sells the boat. His wife has left him; his home and possessions are gone, but he's determined to reestablish his bearings and write a thinly disguised fictional bestseller about this lonely passage in his life. As Budge practices his survival skills in a rental cottage beside the bayside community's beach, he's primarily preoccupied with the women he meets and subsequently lusts after. His antics in pursuit of the opposite sex make for an often hilarious mingling of fact and fantasy. In short order, he tries to connect with various women, young and old, including some on the Internet. This deeply personal quest for validation and companionship takes the reader down one entertaining detour after another as Budge jousts with his fantasies and winds up losing every time. Despite each successive setback, however, he maintains an upbeat, dogged determination to move forward and leave the past behind.
