- Synopsis
- This chapter explores changes in the mechanical excavator industry, particularly with the advent of hydraulics. Despite the fact that this industry moves at a very different pace and technological intensity than the disk drive industry, the same factors precipitated the failure of both industries to remain competitive in the face of rapid technological change. This chapter was originally published as chapter 3 of "The Innovator's Dilemma: When New Technologies Cause Great Firms to Fail."
