- Synopsis
- Recognizing an idea's potential is an important step in the innovation process. But getting the right people to recognize the idea--that is, people with the power to allocate resources--is another hurdle, and one that demands substantial organizational skill and entrepreneurial drive. This chapter identifies practical steps the entrepreneur/innovator can take to move beyond initial recognition to a situation involving greater support. It covers the critical role of the idea champion and other supporters, the importance of timing in gaining recognition and support, and how to build a business case for an innovative idea and overcome resistance. This chapter was originally published as chapter 4 of "Harvard Business Essentials: The Innovator's Toolkit."
