- Synopsis
- Explosive productivity and expansive profit margins are just added bonuses. The allure of the search, the thrill of the challenge, and the prospect of making meaningful change-these are the reasons real innovators choose to innovate. In this chapter, authors Jeff Dyer, Hal Gregerson, and Clayton Christensen sum up the insights they have learned in their eight years of research and offer an optimistic outlook on what innovation can do for our future. Social innovators have solved complex problems and have improved the lives of the less fortunate. Business innovators have also used their ingenuity and their resources to give back to their communities and to the greater world. Innovation is infectious and, the authors argue, will continue to advance society, provided that people are willing to take risks and make investments. Appended to this chapter is a road map for how you can master the five discovery skills of disruptive innovators-associating, questioning, observing, networking, and experimenting-and foster them in the next generation of workers. This chapter was originally published as the Conclusion to "The Innovator's DNA: Mastering the Five Skills of Disruptive Innovators."
