- Synopsis
- "You have to get used to it." That's the truth about spruce gum, which tastes like pure turpentine to non-Vermonters. And that's what Libby Fletcher was supposed to do with a whole new way of living. But Libby didn't want to get used to living in Vermont instead of Illinois. She didn't want to be stuck way up on a mountain in a lumber mill full of rough characters and practically no English-speaking children. Above all, she had no intention of getting used to her new stepfather, who was so like yet so painfully unlike her own father. Libby's battles with family, relatives, and all aspects of her strange new environment are sometimes funny, other times poignant. The reader will await their outcome with mounting interest, thanks to the skilled telling by this accomplished author.
