Critical Excess: Overreading in Derrida, Deleuze, Levinas, Žižek and Cavell
- Synopsis
-
Drawing on his course "Philosophy, Literature, and Film" and lecture on "In Praise of Overreading," Davis (French, U. of London) defines overreading as testing the hermeneutic constraints limiting the possible interpretations of a text. Following an overview of the contributions of Derrida, Zizak, and Cavell to the philosophical interpretation of film, he explores arguments against/beyond interpretation, e. g. , Deleuze's claim that he was creating something new in reading the arts.
