- Synopsis
- In this book, Savvides (international economics, Cyprus U. of Technology, Cyprus) and Stengos (economics, U. of Guelph, Canada) focus on the connection between accumulation of human capital (education, job training, and general health, for example) and long-term economic growth. While they offer a brief discussion of the development of the theoretical literature on human capital and economic growth, their central focus is on analyzing and evaluating the extant empirical evidence concerning a link between human capital accumulation and economic growth. In addition to surveying the theoretical and empirical literature, they analyze a consistent data set using nonlinear estimation techniques in order evaluate the merits of various hypotheses on the link between human capital and economic growth.
