- Synopsis
- The moonlight sharpened, turning so bright it hurt Callie's eyes. Within that light, she saw something. At first she thought she imagined it. It shimmered, no more than a glowing shadow. Then all of a sudden it turned sharp and real, more real than anything else in the yard. It was a horse. A beautiful silver horse, with a coat that glistened in the moonlight and a white mark like a star on her forehead. The star shone with a light all its own, brighter than the moon, brighter than the lights of the distant houses. The horses Callie had seen by the side of the road were dull in comparison. Callie ached to step outside, to press her cheek against the horse's sleek side, to run her hands through the soft silver mane. She opened the window wider. She didn't know where the horse had come from, and she didn't care. She was glad it had stopped in her yard.
