Whether patients are in the acute or sub-acute phase of treatment at a rehabilitation hospital or skilled nursing facility or in the chronic phase of treatment at an outpatient clinic, the approaches to adequate pain control explored in this volume can dictate the success of rehabilitation. The treatment of pain in rehabilitation patients varies depending on the etiology and diagnosis. Although similarities exist, and the ultimate goal of pain control is similar, individualized pain management treatment offers the best chance of success.
