It was on one Christmas Eve when I read this book, my first Victoria Holt novel. Relaxing in the festive atmosphere, the first page gripped me immediately. Music plays a suggestive part through the story--I shall never forget Isabella Stacey playing that same piece through the afternoon. Caroline has two choices: the kind and reliable man who has declared his love, and tge other who hasn't... Great ending.
