- Synopsis
-
A first novel by Rubin Weber. An Edgar Award Nominee (1965).
The news of Jonas Burkholder's death spread quickly through the city of Fair Hill. He was an old man and already had a heart attack. Then another story spread. Chet Lehman had told Nellie that Kenneth had come to him saying, "Come quick, Father is going to hurt Jonas."
Charlie Buch was preparing to embalm Jonas' body when Alma Buch said to him "Did you notice anything funny about the body? Do you know what people are saying?" She continued: "They say that Jonas didn't just die. They say Phares killed him."
