- Synopsis
- A family from Ireland tries to escape the potato famine by coming to America, but the mother dies during the trip and a young lad of 13, accompanied by his brother and sister, arrives in America only to find his father has also died and his uncle has no money to support the family. The young man vows to keep his family together and to provide for them all of the comforts he has never had, but his "get ahead at any cost" attitude causes great suffering to him and those he loves.
