Max Lucado uses the twenty-third Psalm combined with humorous anecdotes to point out the similarities between David’s life and our own.
The use of other scriptures reinforces the twenty-third Psalm, and offers Christian answers for our emotional questions and needs.
Lucado’s humor and encouragement lightens the gravity of death, fear, discontent, and so many other harsh emotions we face during our lives. This book encourages us to look at our emotions and behavior in a serious, but light hearted way. It was easy to see me in some of the embarrassing awkward situations he described. Being able to laugh at some of the stories made the more serious side of them easier to apply to myself.
The main theme of this book is how to get past those things that would steal our joy of life and move toward the freedom that God has for us.

This book discusses The 23rd Psalm in depth and explains each verse. For me, it was a time of spiritual growth. The way the author writes really draws the reader in. It was a very comforting book. I felt like it was written just for me.
