- Synopsis
- Desire's mother, a drug addict and prostitute, literally gave birth to her on the streets of Harlem. After spending much of her life in various foster homes, Desire is taken in by Miss Hattie Mae, who teaches her Christian values and encourages her to join the Gospel choir. Desire's voice draws the attention of hip-hop moguls but her subsequent path to musical stardom forces her to deal with some of the same dangers and enticements that her own mother faced years ago.
