Synopsis: European Union Governance and Policy Making introduces Canadian students to the politics of the EU. Divided into three parts, the collection examines its political system (history, theories, institutions), specific policies, and some of the challenges that the EU currently faces. Geared toward students who are learning about the EU in Canadian classrooms, the text integrates Canadian content and examples to demonstrate how Canada compares to the EU. It discusses current issues such as the refugee crisis and the rise of populism, Brexit, and plans for deepening European integration in the wake of the Euro Area financial crisis. The introduction defines core themes and each chapter returns to these themes, creating structure and coherence.
