- Synopsis
- From the back of the book: A 300-YEAR-OLD SECRET LEADS TO A MYSTERY AS DEEP AND DARK AND DANGEROUS AS EVER! The landmark Tower Mansion, site of the Hardys' first triumph, is being converted into condos, and the construction workers have unearthed a pirate map leading to a cryptic message: "Here lies the greatest treasure of them all." Frank and Joe take the challenge and take the case, leaping into action once again! But the Hardy boys have seen plenty of action, and one thing they've learned: the greater the treasure, the trickier the trail. A mysterious modern-day pirate whose greed knows no bounds, is determined to keep THE SECRET OF THE ISLAND TREASURE all to himself... even if that means getting Frank and Joe out of the way-for good! ============== From inside the book: The Secret of the Island Treasure In the earthen chamber under the treasure pit, Joe crouched next to Bill and studied the hole in the wall by the light of the lantern. "It looks like some kind of tunnel," Joe called up to Frank. "You know, this may sound crazy, but I think I hear gurgling water inside it." "Yeah," said Bill. "I hear it, too." "Maybe you've discovered some pirate plumbing," Frank suggested. "A drinking fountain for thirsty treasure buriers." "It's getting louder," said Joe, putting his ear to the hole. "It's almost like the water's coming toward us." "Let's get out of here!" cried Bill, suddenly panicked. "It's only a little water," scoffed Joe. "Are you afraid to get-" All at once a thick column of water burst out of the hole, hitting Joe so hard it knocked him against the far wall of the chamber. As Frank watched, helpless, Joe slumped to the ground.
