- Synopsis
- A starved, beaten, terrified little horse, headed for the slaughter house, is temporarily left at the riding stables of a Junior Cavalry unit by his dealer-owner. Impressed by his indomitable spirit and his "look of eagles," Colonel Brewster, Commandant of the riding unit, turns the pitiable animal over to his fifteen-year-old son, Tom, to try to rehabilitate the abused animal. Surprisingly, teen-age Pamela, who is nervous and uncertain, too, takes a significant part in the crucial weeks of patient, understanding effort that follow in trying to make the little bay live up to his name, Sky Rocket. Every bit of action in this moving story "might have happened" because the author has not only trained many thousands of boys and girls and hundreds of horses through her Mounted Troop riding classes, but the real Sky Rocket was her own horse, whose rehabilitation she skillfully and lovingly guided.
