- Synopsis
-
This text is intended for a one-semester sophomore-level course in the calculus of functions of several variables, including vector analysis. Such a course is sometimes preceded by a beginning course in linear algebra, but this is not an essential prerequisite.
We use only the rudiments of matrix algebra, and the necessary concepts are developed in the text. We do assume a knowledge of the fundamentals of one-variable calculus--differentiation and integration of the standard functions.
Computational skills and intuitive understanding are, for many students, more important than theory at this level, a need we have tried to meet by making the book as concrete and student-oriented as possible.
