Synopsis: This book is written for practicing school counselors and candidates for the profession. It is intended to raise awareness of legal and ethical issues and reduce the risk of unethical or unlawful behavior that might result in legal complications for school counselors. Although avoiding legal liability is a common thread throughout the book, the larger purpose is to enhance our obligations and responsibilities to students. School counselors are rarely at the center of a lawsuit but daily are called on to act in the best interest of students and their families. Creating sensitivity to legal and ethical issues will heighten our awareness and help us examine the implications of our professional behavior for students.
