Joel Mateland and his lover Anabel take their child Suewellyn from Englad t o primitave Ulcan Island in the South Pacific after Joel kills his evil brother and flees his sncestral home, MAteland Castle. After many years of peace, Suewellyn becomes a young womand and is alarmed when her double Joels legimate daughter, shows up to make mischief. Everyone is skeptical because the person Suewellyn is "playing" was a nasty girl. Suewellyn is being nice.I thought this book was ok another classic once again by Victoria Holt.
