For those who appreciate novels whose setting is in the Victorian era in England, one can't find a better writer than Anne Perry. Emily, Charlotte's sister, is married to a lord; Charlotte is married to a policeman, thus their lives couldn't be more different, but both become involved in helping solve Pitt's case. Emily is able to place Charlotte in the home of General Balantyne to help him with his family memoirs. The reader gets a good picture of how the affluent deal with their scandals and how they regard what they consider to be the lower classes.
