Characters and settings portrayed in detail. Conflict development seamless. Not overly dramatic or intense, but still a nail-biter to the last page. May be best enjoyed by those with rudimentary knowledge of horsemanship. I found myself in a worthy adventure while reading this book. It does not rely heavily on the use of disability as a narrative prosthesis, which is a drawback common to fiction. There is no apparent disability, disadvantage, or weakness assigned to any character in this book. It is refreshing to read a book and not have to feel bad for the underdog, not have to despise the pride of the villain, and not even to be made to feel that justice was meted out to the anti-hero in the end. I think this novel can give readers all the gratification they expect from a book with none of the unresolved conflicts they have gotten accustomed to in many recent #1 books.
