- Synopsis
- During an awkward visit with her former in-laws, Layla has a life-changing encounter with a reclusive neighbor, Bobby August. Set against the background of a lake in northern Maine, this novel braids Layla's story with those of her children, her in-laws, Bobby, and her ex-husband John. A poet who is studying Milton's Paradise Lost, Layla finds connections between Milton's work and her own life experiences.
