Synopsis: Lois Meade is more than a loving wife and mother of three. She's more than the founder and head of a successful cleaning service. She secretly helps the police for free because she has a knack for acute observation and extracting information from hapless villagers who think they are having friendly chats with her. She's practical but generous. She demands the best from her family, her staff and anyone who crosses her path, but she's fair and compassionate. A nameless killer flu-like illness is going around. Even Lois' irrepressible mother has it. A burning cross is found outside the church. Lois doesn't attend religious services but the church choir is so torn by hurt feelings, flirtations and gossip about the new vicar and his nephew that Lois must join to be at the heart of the disturbance where she believes she can unravel important clues. A charismatic thug leading a band of oddly robed followers is menacing the town. A lovelorn village girl is tempted and corrupted and Lois' youngest son, Jamie is love struck over a rich girlfriend who may be deeply involved. So far two people have been murdered. Lois frantically discovers facts and complex motives before there are more victims.
