- Synopsis
- A handsome, liberal bachelor with a pro-football past, the Reverend Randollph expected problems when he became interim pastor at the Church of the Good Shepherd. But a murder in the church choir room, leaving a nude victim, demanded more than clerical judgment. Nor could Randollph find support in the dead woman's identity. Marianne Reedman was the wife of a member of the Board of Trustees who had just vanished with ten million dollars of the church’s money. A detective who believes only in “facts,” plus an attractive newswoman always ready to aid a bachelor in distress, helps Randollph search for clues --including a set of secret diaries that reveal Marianne’s nineteen affairs! Was her final unnamed lover the murderer as Lieutenant Casey believes? Randollph doesn’t think so--and, applying the tenets of a stern Calvinist doctrine, discovers a killer too close to the vestry for comfort.
