- Synopsis
- The book consisting of essays and short stories has been specially designed for the young student. And with this in mind, care has been taken to select passages which have an element of human interest. The main objectives of this collection can briefly be stated as follows: (i) to include passages/essays/short stories which have some cultural relevance and validity, (ii) to allow the reader to relate to other parts of Indian life than the one he/she is familiar with, (iii) to relate to countries which are our neighbours, (iv) to enable the young reader to learn and think about some historically significant landmarks in the passage of time like colonialism, the Indian freedom struggle, the Second World War, the women's movement, and the technological inputs, (v) and also provide the opportunity to think about human values like commitment to a cause, courage, fearlessness, compassion, and relationships.
