Synopsis: Volume 4 of the Bregdan Chronicles, Dark Chaos, continues the sweeping historical saga that now encompasses the third year of the American Civil War. The story has many subplots. For instance, in the South, Carrie Cromwell's heart is full of joy because she marries the man of her dreams, Captain Robert Borden. However, her happiness is threatened when Robert is called back into the Civil War. Carrie occupies herself by caring for wounded people from all sides of the war. As a result, her life is sometimes in danger. In the North, there is violence ending in riots. Carrie's beloved mentor and friend, Aunt Abby, experiences much risk. Matthew, one of Carrie's and Aunt Abby's friends, is imprisoned again and fights to regain his hope and freedom. These and other subplots are intermingled with the discussion of political topics and other aspects of life. Can the characters survive when their worlds are crumbling in front of them?
